Fun and the City

Hi guys,
how are you going on with your e-learning? Feel that you have improved your skills? Tonight I was thinking about it and I realized that things can change in less than a second! I was surfing on the web while listening to music (how relaxing, I should enjoy this luxury more often!) and to my surprise I realized that I could understand almost all the words of the songs. I've never been able to do it before, partly because I didn't pay too much attention to the texts and partly because they contained unknown words or were pronounced with particular (=odd) accents (I think the most terrible is the british!). Anyway this time it was different and I guess it was because I had no pressure and I was doing something that I liked..in a word I was relaxed! It looks like there's an invisible thread between your linguistic (or any other) performance and the way you are feeling in that moment!
Besides that, have you ever dreamed to find something which is not only useful for you but also funny? Talking about how we can improve our english I suggested to try and watch more films in the original language and so yesterday I decided to start the experiment. I went through an old chest of drawer and I found an old dvd,the 4th season of Sex and the City..amazing! Since this is my fav serial, I can nearly say that I know by hearth every single word that had been uttered, but not in english of course! At the beginning it was a bit difficult to understand what they were saying, my ears weren't trained enough, but after a while things got easier and I enjoyed eventually the pleasure of a good film in its real "sound". Oh yes,'coz in this way you can hear the true voices of your beloved and, above all, learn a lot of funny slang words. By now I've enriched my vocabulary with words and expressions which may be not really useful in my academic life, but I'm sure they'll come in handy in my everyday life, soon or later;-)!
I'll write again tomorrow, now it's high time to go to bed..
See you in classroom,bye!
Anna :-)

Hey, Anna, I love "Sex and the City", too! But it's a fresh love, so that I don't know every single word as you do! ; ) Actually, I discovered "Sex and the City" in California. I went there last year and I used to watch TV before going out in the evening. Well, this means that I only know the real voices of Carrie, Samantha etc. It's really strange! You know, I'm lazy like you, I love watching movies but I always watch them in Italian (what a shame, I hope Sarah is not going to read this comment...), but, just as you, I found out that watching movies in their original language is much better!! And I found out I can understand quite well, too! I was really proud of myself!

Uh uh, you're right:-)! Hope Sarah will never read our comments, she would be taken aback by the great deal of mistakes we (and especially I) make! But I guess she always has a glance at our work,so then she can give us suggestions and help us to correct our mistakes! You said you went to California last year, how I envy you! I've always dreamed to visit the west coast, you must definitely tell me about it more in detail next time we meet!I'm really happy to know that you too love "Sex and the City",did you watch the movie this winter? I must say,it's a fresh love for me too, since I've watched it for about three years. By the way, have you got any dvds of the serial? I'm looking for the second and the sixth seasons, they're the only ones I missed!
Bye Vale,see you soon!

Hi girls!
Concerning watching movies in English, I was lazy too before going to London but there I could enjoy many films in the original language and now I continue with this activity as soon as I can, because it's a very good training but not only! As Anna said, a movie in its original dialogues it's much more funny and interesting than a doubled one!
About Anna's experience with songs... how I feel it mine! Listening to music in english is something I'm doing since I was a child, and most times I had to search for the lyrics to understand the sense of the songs; but now I realized it is becoming easier and easier because I'm able to understand, if not all, a large number of words and sentences!
My big problem now is learning how to speak well..
Hope to get it one day! :)
Bye!!
Sara

Hi again!
Anna, unfortunately I don't have any dvd of "Sex and the City", I'm sorry! But I watched the movie last winter and I found it very funny! These 4 girls are amazing, I wish I was like them!
About watching movies in English, I'm sure it's extremely useful and funny, Sara, I promise I'll start doing it! I'd like to watch "Lost" in English...I've never watched it, not even in Italian, but I went to Brazil last month, I watched just 5 minutes of it and I definitely want to watch the whole serial! Do you like "Lost", guys?
See you tomorrow! : )
